The design was improved by me drilling drain holes in the bottom of the holder and coating the bottom, both sides, with polyurethane. Ive owned this exact Bamboo Utensil holder and after a few years the bottom will blacken with mold from water pooling on the bottom. The bamboo will deteriorate for water pooling. The holes I drilled will eliminate water pools. My wife threw the holder in the garbage before I could refurbish it. Dry out the Utensil holder, upside down overnight, frequently to maximize nice appearance and life of this Bamboo Utensil holder.
