French provincial carved pine cupboard Circa late 18th century Item # 605wan14z a distinctly individual cupboard with a rich provincial flare, this cupboard is beautifully characterized by the intense and relentless scalloping of the shelves. The lower open shelf is deep under three untouched original shelves that slide squarely over a large dovetail along the top. The series of four shelves above these are intended for the display and presentation of fine china, having a raised lip along the back edge to support a plate. Each shelf has a gallery along the front that joins the sides with thick tenon-mortise and supported over four carved supports flanking a pierced and beautifully carved central baluster - every shelf features an entirely unique set of supports and central baluster while the symmetry of the flowing scrolling is mirrored from the crest through each shelf. The surface throughout is warm with centuries of waxing and rubbed use, delightfully oxidized and discolored throughout. This is a highly unique and wonderfully untouched piece that would look absolutely gorgeous in a period home, particularly one of the french provincial taste. Measurements: 14 d x 58 w (at the crest) x 87 1/2 h Condition report: early and heavily discolored surface, nicely patinated with old waxing. Apparently original hardware, no key. Repaired cracks and old breaks here and there, some patching to crest. Heavy wear to feet; typical age indicators of cracking/abrasions/etc. As expected. Overall outstanding original condition.
